How To Find the Perfect Powder

Powder is an essential part of your makeup routine. Powder can mattify your face and set your makeup so it stays put all day. But it can be a bit tricky to find the perfect powder. Here are some tips.

There are two main types of powder:

Setting Powder: Setting Powder is a powder that goes on top of your foundation after you have applied it. Setting powder is designed to mattify your makeup and is usually translucent or lightly tinted. For example, if you use a pressed powder throughout the day for touch-ups there’s a setting powder inside. The downside with these is that they tend to be a little heavier, and therefore not as natural looking on skin.

Finishing Powder: The second type of powder is a finishing powder. These powders are white and become translucent on skin. Finishing powder goes on top of your setting powder to smooth and perfec skin even more. Finishing power really isn’t necessary for every day. However, celebrities use finishing powder for red carpet events and situations where they will be photographed a lot.

However, remember Nicole Kidman’s disastrous red carpet powder fail? That was caused by poorly blended finishing powder. You need to blend your finishing powder like your life depends on it. If you don’t, you can end up falling victim to camera flashback, and you’ll have white marks all over your face in photos. The white marks are caused by the light from the flash bouncing off certain mineral ingredients in the powder.
