Social Media News: Instagram Anti-Harassment Comment Filter

Have you ever fallen victim to online bullying? If you’re a YouTuber, the answer to this question is probably yes. Online bullying is so bad that many influencers just brush it off as ‘part of the job’ — but it doesn’t have to be that way. Luckily, big social networks are beginning to take action against online bullies, spammers, and general Internet negativity

Instagram recently launched their anti-harassment comment filter to banish Internet trolls in their tracks. The social network will now allow users to ban certain terms or words from being used on their page. When a commenter tries to use one of the banned words, the comment will be hidden. Additionally, you will be able to turn off comments on a post completely if you choose to.

“Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self expression,” said Instagram’s head of public policy, Nicky Jackson Colaco, in a statement to The Washington Post.

We are thrilled to see Instagram protecting its users from Internet bullies. We hope other social platforms, like YouTube and Twitter, that are known for threatening behavior will take notice and introduce similar safeguards for users.
